We are always looking for research participants! We conduct a variety of experiments including online studies, in-person behavioral experiments, and noninvasive brain imaging studies.
Current Studies
Our ongoing research studies are listed below. If you are interested in participating in one of our studies, or if you would like more information about a study, please contact us at dcl@wustl.edu or give us a call at (314)935-4138.
Everyday Event Memory: In-Person Study
This study consists of 4 sessions. The first session will be in-person, and the other 3 will be completed from home. The first session takes place at the Dynamic Cognition Lab, located at Washington University in St. Louis. In this first session, participants will watch a series of videos and complete a memory test. We will then give participants a tablet computer to take home with them, where they will complete three 45-minute sessions 1 week, 2 weeks, and 4 weeks after watching the videos. Participants will be paid $15 per hour for completing this study.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Must be between the ages of 65 and 89
- Cognitively healthy
- Not currently being treated for depression, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, or any other neurological disorder
If you are interested in participating in this study, please contact us at dcl@wustl.edu or 314-935-4138.
Memory Representations and fMRI : In-Person Study
We are currently recruiting participants for an in-person two-session study. The first session involves watching short videos while undergoing an MRI and completing a series of cognitive tests. The second session occurs one week later and involves watching more videos and completing a memory task while undergoing MRI. Both sessions take about 2 to 3 hours to complete. Participants will receive $25 per hour for completing this study.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Must be between the ages of 18-38 or 65-85
- Cognitively healthy
- Not currently being treated for a neurological disorder
If you are interested in participating in this study, please call 314-935-4138, or contact us at dcl@wustl.edu to schedule a phone call to confirm your eligibility.
Event Schema: In-Person Study
We are currently recruiting participants for an in-person two-part study. Both parts take place on the same day, with a two-hour break in between sessions. In the first session, participants will read a series of short stories. After the two-hour break, participants will be asked to answer questions about the stories that they read in the first session. Both sessions take about 30 minutes to complete. Participants will be paid $10 per hour with a $5 bonus for completing both sessions.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Must be between the ages of 18-35
- Must be a native English speaker
If you are interested in participating in this study, please call 314-935-4138 or email us at dcl@wustl.edu. Please include “Event Schema” in the title of your email.
Actions and Everyday Events: In-Person & Online Studies
We are currently recruiting participants for an in-person study investigating how actions influence our perception of everyday events. This study takes about 2 hours to complete. Participants will be paid $10 per hour.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Must be between the ages of 18-35
- Must be a native English speaker

Causality and Temporal Memory: In-Person & Online Studies
We are currently recruiting participants for an in-person study and an online study investigating how our knowledge of everyday events influences our ability to remember these events. This study takes between 30 minutes and 2 hours to complete. Participants will be paid $10 per hour.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Must be between the ages of 18-35
- Must be a native English speaker
- Located in the United States
